Scientific framework and objectives

A Basic Locative Construction is one chosen by a language to answer the question “Where is X?” (Q “Where is the mug?”, BLC “The mug is on the table”). Languages differ with regards to the way that identify static location, notably by the use of more or less semantically rich locative verbs (full locative verbs, posture verbs or positionals), case systems and/or adpositions, Internal Location Nouns (ILN) and verb satellites (particle verbs, directionals). The objective of this project is to develop a typology of basic locative constructions from and for the description of this phenomenon in diverse languages.
